About the Creator
Kalan Hooks is a proud native of Kansas City, Missouri, where he was born and raised and introduced to sports at an early age through the world of travel basketball and AAU track and field, facing and engaging with some of the nation’s top talent in athletics.
A graduating senior at UAPB majoring in multimedia communications, Hooks started early in media, starting as on-air talent for KPRS-HOT 103 Jamz as a radio host for Generation Rap when he was a senior in high school.
Hooks then found his true passion for sports journalism and would dedicate all his time to perfecting his craft after attacking the books hard.
Hooks’ work includes writing preview and game stories, doing live game updates on social media, creating graphics, and taking photographs. Hooks also breaks down basketball film. He is also the primary contact for the UAPB Men’s Basketball team and UAPB Track & Field.
Hooks has interned with FOX Sports as a Broadcast Associate, an Inclusion intern, and an Assignment Desk intern.
“All I know is hard work because faith without works is dead,” said Hooks about his passion for journalism.
Highly active on campus, Hooks was a member of the mesmerizing Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South (M4), where he served as a section leader for the clarinet section, a member of the UAPB NAACP Chapter where he held the office of being the historian/reporter.
Hooks is also a proud member of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
