UAPB Basketball Prepared for High-Intensity Matchup against Jackson State

PINE BLUFF, AR – Facing two of three Mississippi Southwestern Athletic Conference teams, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff basketball teams will face Jackson State in doubleheader action on Monday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.


The Lady Lions just advanced to a two-game winning streak after collecting wins against Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State. They are looking to defeat the top-seeded Jackson State Tigers to elevate to a three-game winning streak and move up the SWAC standings.


After having a career night against Alcorn State with her first-ever career triple-double, Zaay Green is very confident about the matchup against Jackson State after her 26-point, ten rebounds, and ten assist game. Green went 4-of-5 from three and 6-of-9 from the field in the previous win over ASU.


Green now averages 14 points per game with six rebounds and six assists, ranking number one in the conference in assists.


Preseason Second Team All-SWAC Khadijah Brown will be another key player in the Jackson State matchup with her 12-point average, adding just about nine rebounds to her average, putting her amongst the top four rebounders in the conference.


Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Jackson State are the top two teams in the conference in scoring, field goal percentage, and rebounding.


UAPB is coming off a 77-57 win over Alcorn State.


Led by Ameshya Williams with 18 points per game, Jackson State is coming off an 88-54 win over Mississippi Valley State.


On the men’s side, the Golden Lions are searching for a way to bounce back against Jackson State after taking a tough loss to Alcorn State with a final score of 70-64.


Shawn Williams leads Arkansas-Pine Bluff, who averages 14.8 points per game, adding 3.8 assists. Williams had 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists against Alcorn State.


Dequan Morris will be a crucial attribute for the Golden Lions with his 14.5 points 3.7 rebound average while shooting the ball at 54 percent.


Morris is averaging 20.2 points from his past five games. He scored 20 points and added six rebounds Saturday night against Alcorn State.


The Golden Lions will face a Jackson State team coming off a 69-65 win against Mississippi Valley. The Tigers are led by Gabe Watson, who averages 14.9 points per game.


The doubleheader action will start with the women, tipping off at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
