MONTGOMERY, AL – After both teams took a loss on Monday to Jackson State, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's and women's basketball teams are looking to bounce back big against Alabama State on Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Flashback to January 5th, the Golden Lions basketball program split on the night against Alabama State with the women's taking a loss 54-40 and the men's coming down to the wire but coming out on top over the Hornets 70-68, posting their first SWAC win of the season.
Zaay Green was not able to play in the first meetup with ASU, but tonight she is ready to bounce back tough and continue to fill up the stat sheet after posting her first career triple-double against Alcorn State with 26 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists, followed by her double-double against Jackson State with 19 points and 11 rebounds. She sits at the top of the SWAC in assists with 5.3 assists per game.
As for the men's, Shawn Williams dropped 22 points, going 40 percent and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line in the win against Alabama State. Williams is looking to bring the same intensity to the floor against ASU tonight with the help of Dequan Morris whose been playing fantastic lately, leading the Golden Lions with 14.6 points per game after posting eight consecutive double-digit games.
Ayana Emmanuel leads Alabama State’s women’s team with 12.9 points per game, and the men are led by Trace Young, who averages 12.1 points per game. The men are coming off an 80-72 win over Grambling State. The women took an 88-56 loss to GSU.
