PINE BLUFF, AR – Ending their non-conference play, it’s a new year for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff basketball teams as they prepare to open for the most exciting time of the year – SWAC Conference play. The Golden Lions will have their home conference debut against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.
UAPB women’s basketball made a statement in their non-conference play, knocking off mid-major teams such as Tulane, Southern Mississippi, and Southeast Missouri, showing they’re ready for SWAC play.
Transfer Zaay Green leads the Lady Lions, a dominant force on the court, averaging 15 points, six-and-a-half rebounds, five assists, and two steals a game.
Khadijah Brown is also a key component for UAPB women’s basketball as she averages 12 points and is scraping the nine-rebound margin. Brown is also shooting 53 percent from the field.
Sade Hudson’s shooting will come into play for the Lady Lions as she averages 12 points.
Joyce Kennerson’s heart will electrify the hardwood with her 11-point average, adding four boards per game.
The Lady Bulldogs are led by Nigeria Jones, who averages 12 points and three rebounds per game.
On the men’s side, the Golden Lions collectively averaged 63.5 points against a variety of AP Top-25 teams throughout conference play, knocking down almost 39 percent of their shots, grabbing 28 rebounds a game, and dishing the rock for an average of ten assists per game.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff will introduce a group of guys to a new environment of college basketball who are liable to change how SWAC basketball is played.
Shawn Williams averaged 14 points for the Golden Lions and four assists throughout non-conference play. Williams is also a successful 92 percent foul shooter.
Dequan Morris, who has been acclimated to SWAC basketball for the past couple of seasons, will bring his experience to the floor for UAPB. Morris averaged 12 points, shooting over 52 percent from the field for the Golden Lions.
The long stretch forward, Trey Sampson, will bring his length to the floor for the Golden Lions, averaging 12 points and snatching five boards per game.
Kylen Milton brings a solid all-around game to the hardwood for the Golden Lions, almost averaging 12 points per game and adding three-and-a-half rebounds a game.
As UAPB head coach Solomon Bozeman would call him, Brandon Brown is the glue for Arkansas-Pine Bluff as he nearly averages a double-double for UAPB. Brown averages ten points and eight rebounds per game.
The Golden Lions will face an Alabama A&M Bulldog team coming off a 66-63 loss to Lipscomb last Thursday. The Bulldogs are led by Garrett Hicks, who averages 14 points and three-and-a-half rebounds.
Tipoff for the women’s is scheduled for 5:30p.m. and the men’s will tipoff right after at 7:30 p.m.
