PINE BLUFF, AR – Both men's and women's University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff basketball teams are prepared to spend their Martin Luther King Day by coming together on the basketball court, looking to get a win against Bethune Cookman on Monday at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
The women have been getting their way on the floor lately, especially after advancing to a three-game winning streak with an impressive blowout win over Florida A&M with a final score of 76-53, Saturday evening.
Playing some of their best basketball, the Lady Lions have two standouts who have been doing damage on the floor.
Maya Peat has been overachieving in cleaning up the boards, grabbing 56 rebounds, and posting three straight double-doubles in their past three victories. Peat currently averages 7.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
Zaay Green has been a dominant force for the Lady Lions, scoring 52 points in their last three wins and now averages close to 15 points per game.
Second Team Preseason All-SWAC Khadijah Brown had a great game against Florida A&M, finishing with 14 points and five rebounds. Brown averages 12 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for UAPB.
The Lady Lions will match up with Bethune Cookman for the first time in history. The Wildcats are coming off a 78-74 win over Mississippi Valley State.
As for the men, the Golden Lions are searching for a way to redeem themselves after a devastating 71-66 loss to Florida A&M in overtime.
Brandon Brown did a great job carrying his team against Florida A&M with his contagious character, allowing his teammates to get involved. Brown finished the game with 17 points and eight rebounds in his SWAC debut.
Brahm Harris did a great job shooting the ball from behind the arch against FAMU, knocking down 4-7 of his three-point shots. Harris finished the ball game with 14 points.
K'Shun Stokes also had a good game against FAMU, playing his heart out and showing that he can go on the court. The guard grabbed seven boards and finished with 11 points.
The same heart Stokes played with against Florida A&M will be essential in competition against Bethune Cookman. BCU is coming off a close 72-70 win over Mississippi Valley State.
Women's will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., and the men's is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
