HOUSTON, TX – On Saturday, both University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff basketball teams will square off in their third SWAC matchup this season against Texas Southern at the TSU Health and Physical Education Arena.
The Lady Lions will bring a loaded pack of talent against Texas Southern, starting with Zaay Green, who leads UAPB, averaging 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game.
Sade Hudson will play a significant role in the Lady Lions’ success as she brings an average of 11 points and three rebounds to the table.
The Houston, Texas native Joyce Kennerson is glad to be home and wants to put on a show in front of her hometown. Kennerson averages ten points, four rebounds, and two assists per game.
Maya Peat will hold things down low in the paint, averaging six points per game and snatching five boards per contest. Peat is coming off a 13-point, nine-rebound game against Alabama State.
The Lady Lions will face a Texas Southern Lady Tiger team coming off a 73-66 loss against Grambling State.
As for the men, after an impressive hard-fought performance and victory against Alabama State on Wednesday, the Golden Lions are locked in and are looking to acquire a winning streak with a win over Texas Southern.
The shifty guard leads the Golden Lions, Shawn Williams, who averages 14 points per game with the highest free throw percentage on the Arkansas-Pine Bluff roster, shooting 94 percent from the line. Williams also adds a four assists average.
The stretch forward Trey Sampson will play a vital role in the matchup against Texas Southern as he averages 12 points while shooting 42 percent from the field and grabs five rebounds per game.
Kylen Milton will be another key player, averaging 12 points and coming down three-and-a-half rebounds per contest.
Dequan Morris, or the glue as UAPB head coach Solomon Bozeman would call him, will bring his inhumane athletic ability to the table, averaging 11 points while knocking down 50 percent of his shots from the field and three rebounds for the Golden Lions.
Texas Southern is coming off a 67-61 victory over Grambling State.
The women’s game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game will tip-off right after at 7:30 p.m.
