AUSTIN, TX – Facing their fourth top-25 team this season, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team fell to No. 17 Texas with a final score of 63-31 on Tuesday night at the Frank Erwin Center.
Kylen Milton led the Golden Lions with eight points and six rebounds, followed by Dequan Morris’ six points.
Travonta Doolittle also added six points, shooting 66 percent from the field and a perfect 100 percent from the arch.
From the tip, the Golden Lions put a lot of defensive pressure on Texas, holding the ranked Longhorns to three points in the first five minutes of the game.
Texas would then jump out to a quick 17-1 lead over the Golden Lions halfway through the first half.
Shawn Williams would find Milton spotted up and ready to shoot in the corner for a baseline-drive baseline drift three-pointer to get some energy going. Immediately after the defensive end, AJ Stredic had his feet planted in the right spot outside the restricted area to draw a charge, jumping up with excitement.
Shawn Williams knew how vital it was to knock shots down for Arkansas-Pine Bluff to make a comeback. Williams would go back-and-forth with the Longhorn offense, scoring a crafty pull-up jump shot and then his go-to stepback three-pointer to end the first half.
Travonta Doolittle checked in for the Golden Lions in the second half with intentions to shoot the basketball and made his intentions pure by knocking down a pair of consecutive perimeter threes from the corner, but it was not enough to close the deficit against Texas.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff men’s basketball will return home for their last non-conference game against Ecclesia College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
