UAPB Men's Hoops Set for Season Debut Against Creighton

Updated: Jan 13, 2022

OMAHA, NE – Headed in a new direction with an all-new coaching staff and several transfers, fans are in for a treat for the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff men's basketball team. On Tuesday, Golden Lion men's basketball will take their talents to the Big East to take on the Creighton Bluejays in their season debut at 7 p.m. CT at the Chi Health Center Omaha.

The off-season was very crucial for the UAPB men's basketball program. Taking advantage of the portal benefitted the Golden Lions, bringing in seven transfers that will change the culture of the Arkansas-Pine Bluff basketball system.

In his first year as head coach of the Golden Lions, Solomon Bozeman has been pushing his team to their limits, making each player on the roster a better player over the off-season with a coaching staff who all have the same goals of success.

"We have one of the most underrated coaching staffs in the country, and we're hungry," said Bozeman.

On Tuesday, Golden Lion fans from across the nation will see the tremendous growth of the men's basketball program and how all the hard work has been paying off for the guys.

The Golden Lions face a tall Creighton team who can shoot the basketball, leaving no option but to box out, communicate on the floor, crash the boards, closeout, and run the floor to be successful against the Bluejays.

"To beat a team like Creighton, you've got to have multiple guys step up," said Bozeman about how much of an impact teamwork will help create success against Creighton.

"I love this team, we have a long way to go, but we're getting better each and every day."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Shawn Williams will be a crucial component to success for the Golden Lions. Williams shows many leadership skills on the court, but the 6'1 point guard can shoot the basketball from deep, making himself a threat from anywhere on the floor.

Trey Sampson, a 6'9 forward, will also produce a lot for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. With his size and length, Sampson can execute well in the post, but he can also handle the basketball when needed and shoot the basketball well, making him an even more dangerous threat.

You can tune in and catch the action live on FS1 (FOX Sports 1), as the game will tip-off at 7 p.m.
