AUSTIN, TX – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team will face its fourth AP Top 25 team, taking on the No. 17 ranked Texas Longhorns on Tuesday night at the Erwin Events Center.
Leading not just the Golden Lions but the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) as well is Shawn Williams, averaging 14.7 points per game, shooting the ball 40 percent from the field along with 4.1 assists, showing why he is the best distributor in the conference, ranking first in the SWAC in assists. Williams ranks fifth in scoring and first in three-point field goals with three perimeter buckets per game. Williams also has the highest free throw percentage, shooting .913 percent from the line.
Assisting Williams in scoring the basketball is Kylen Milton, who currently averages 12 points per game and an additional 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game for the Golden Lions.
Coming off an impressive season home debut against Arkansas State, leading with 19 points, three rebounds, and four steals while shooting 63 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line, Dequan Morris will play a substantial role of the foundation for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, bringing athleticism and leadership abilities to the table. Morris averages 11 points, knocking down 60 percent of his shots and adding 2.7 rebounds per game.
Brandon Brown is the icing on the cake for Arkansas-Pine Bluff after dropping 21 points and snatching 11 boards against Arkansas State. Brown averages 10.5 points per game and shoots the ball at 50 percent through the season. Grabbing 8.5 rebounds a game, Brown is one of the top rebounders in the SWAC, ranking second on the boards.
The Golden Lions will face at Texas Longhorn team, who is coming off a 64-60 upset loss to No. 16 Seton Hall, causing Texas to drop from No. 7 to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 Weekly Rankings.
The Longhorns are led by Timmy Allen, who averages 13.8 points per game.
The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. CT and will be aired live on ESPNU. The game can also be listened to on Longhorn Radio Network and Sirius XM 83.
