UAPB Volleyball Falls at Home to Prairie View A&M

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's volleyball team suffered a tough loss against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M with a score of 3-0 (26-28, 18-25, 21-25) Monday afternoon at H.O. Clemmons Arena.

Sophomore Zyonn Smith led the Lady Lions with 14 kills and added 10 digs. Junior Haley Gomez led the Lady Lions in blocks with four huge blocks and adding on six kills. Redshirt junior Kaila Robinson led the team with 19 digs, adding six kills to her stats, and junior Ambria Schneringer contributed big with 20 impressive assists.

Coming off their first season victory and SWAC conference win against Texas Southern, UAPB was looking to execute the same way today against the Lady Panthers. Recovery and execution was a huge factor in today's matchup. The Lady Lions got off to a slow start in today's matchup down quick 3-1 in the first set. UAPB fought their way back in the first set to the wire but fell 28-26.

The energy from the first set would carry over to the second and third set as the Lady Lions did not have enough energy to execute in the next two sets, as they ran out of gas in the second set with a score of 25-18 and the third set with a score of 25-21.

"You have to execute in this game in order to beat anyone," said UAPB head coach Chelsey Lucas. "We got to approach the game ready to execute any point and every point. We must minimize the errors and play smart, but we'll regroup and get better as the season goes on."

The Lady Lions will resume in action on the road Sunday, January 31st against the Jaguars of Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, at 5 p.m. You can follow the live stats on uapblionsroar.com
