UAPB Soccer Heats Up the Field in Freezing Temperatures Securing Victory in Season Opener

PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team opened their 2021 spring season with an impressive victory over Jarvis Christian College with a final score of 8-1 home at Pumphrey Stadium.


With temperatures below freezing, the Lady Lions had three players score multiple goals. SWAC Preseason Second-Team All-Conference, sophomore Evangelia Sandoval-Belmudez, junior Cameron Rodriguez, and freshman Tobi McCoy scored two goals for the Lady Lions, with senior Claire Morales and freshman Iyanah Hicks adding one goal apiece. Rodriguez and Sandoval-Belmudez would exchange on assisting one another on their scored goals in the 44th minute, and Alondra Lepe also assisted Sandoval-Belmudez late in the game at the 79-minute mark.


"UAPB first-year head coach Erik Solberg was very impressed with the win over Jarvis Christian and looks to continue to get better as the season progresses." "We'll celebrate how we executed in today's well-deserved victory, but we'll come right back to work and get better for our next matchup against Lyon College," said Solberg.


The UAPB Soccer team will resume in action at home Wednesday at 3 p.m. against Lyon College looking to win their second consecutive game.
