UAPB Soccer Secures Victory Over Alcorn State on Senior Day

PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's soccer team defeated the Alcorn State Braves with a final score of 4-1 to advance their record to 3-4 on Sunday afternoon at Pumphrey Stadium.

With seniors Amanda Mouton, Clara Morales, Kaitlyn Hapke and student assistant coach Audrianna Kallie hitting the field ten minutes before kickoff for their senior day, the Lady Lions had a bar of expectation to reach in the matchup against Alcorn State.

Fifteen minutes into gameplay, Alcorn State scored their first goal with a quick 0-1 lead over the Lady Lions. Seconds later, freshman Iyanah Hicks answered back, putting the Lady Lions on the board and tied the game at 1-1 with an assist from Morales. Four minutes later, Hicks scored another goal with an assist from freshman Tobi McCoy to create momentum for the Lady Lions.

Freshman Madison Hernandez scored her first collegiate goal for the Lady Lions assisted by Hicks to get a 3-1 halftime lead over the Lady Braves.

In the second half, defense from freshman Cayla Goncalves and Mouton would keep the energy going for the Lady Lions and put the Lady Braves offense to a stop. McCoy would seal the 4-1 victory for the Lady Lions with a goal assisted by Hernandez and sophomore Mariela Flores to snap their four-game losing streak.

"I was pleased with how aggressive the team played and not relaxing after the first half and kept the energy flowing", said UAPB head coach Erik Solberg about the victory over Alcorn State.

The Lady Lions soccer team will return to the field on Tuesday facing the University of Arkansas at Little Rock at 3 p.m.
