UAPB Track & Field Prepares to Put on a Show at the SWAC Outdoor Championships

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend which will take place at Prairie View A&M University.

After a great indoor finish at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Golden Lions are looking to perform even better in the outdoor championships.

With COVID-19 ending UAPB's 2020 outdoor season, the Golden Lions enter this weekend hungry, seeking hardware for the Golden Lions Track & Field program to bring back home to Pine Bluff, AR.

Junior Safiya John will be the one to keep an eye out for the women' side as she looks to continue to dominate the outdoor circuit at the SWAC Championships this weekend. Ranked number-one in the 100-meter hurdles, John hopes to stand at the top of the podium this weekend.

On the men's side, sophomore Deandre Fyffe will bring the aggression of the Golden Lion to the ring as he leads the conference in the shot put and the discus throw.

John, Fyffe and Golden Lion student athletes are expected to have new personal bests over the weekend and work their way to the podium as well.

"We're looking to compete on a high level in the SWAC this weekend and finish in the top three", said UAPB head coach Christopher McCoy about his vision for his team in the SWAC Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
