PINE BLUFF, AR – Dominating her competition in the field and turning the heads of competitors and spectators, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff track and field team’s Safiya John was named SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) Field Athlete of the Week.
Competing amongst the best of the best during the outdoor season, John has shown why she can categorize herself as one of the top athletes across the nation.
In last week’s Sooner Invitational at the University of Oklahoma, John catapulted herself to new heights with an impressive jump of 6.18 meters (20 feet 3 inches ¼) to land in second place.
Not your ordinary jumper, John brings energy to the runway with ways to get herself pumped and the audience by getting them involved in her every jump.
Outstanding in the long jump, John can do it all on the track and in the field – posing a threat in the 100-meter hurdles and versatile in the multi-events.
In her last year of undergrad, John’s mind is focused on one goal – to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
John will be in action this weekend at the Red Wolves Invitational, hosted at Arkansas State University.
