PINE BLUFF, AR -- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's football team hit the field hard on Thursday evening to continue preparation for their 2021 spring season, which kicks off at the end of February. The Golden Lions are scheduled to play a six-game stretch of conference games, starting with their season debut against Texas Southern on February 27th.
Last week, the Golden Lions hit the gridiron for their first week of training camp, practicing in a traditional practice jersey, shorts, and helmets. With the season approaching fast, the team upgraded this week to practicing in shoulder pads, which allowed them to get a more physical feel for the game.
Giving the team extra motivation to begin their second week of training camp, three student-athletes were named to the BOXTOTOW HBCU Preseason All-American Team. Junior offensive lineman Mark Evans II, senior wide receiver Harry Ballard III, and senior return specialist Tyrin Ralph were named preseason All-Americans. The same three were named to the All-SWAC 1st team as well and are looking to have a great season.
UAPB first-year Head Coach Doc Gamble was extremely pleased with what he saw during the second week of training camp as far as progression within the team. "We're showing lots of improvement and we're making each other better," said Gamble. "It's the little things, this group of men knows how to sort things out."
Gamble's offense will be a must-see sight during the spring 2021 season as they continue to get better, with QB Skyler Perry running the show for the Golden Lions. "We're planning to strive for perfection and execute well in doing that," said Gamble about the offense this season.
The Golden Lions' football practices will remain closed to the public as they continue to practice on a six-day schedule, Monday-Saturday, to prepare for the spring 2021 season opener.
