LITTLE ROCK, AR – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team will travel just up the road to Little Rock, AR, for the weekend to go head-to-head with SEC foe Arkansas Razorbacks for the first time in history. The matchup will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
Announced back in 2019, history will be made on October 23rd as the Golden Lions will face the Razorbacks for the first time in history in which this will be the first time since 1944 that Arkansas will face an in-state opponent, generating fans across the state of Arkansas to witness the matchup.
QB Skyler Perry leads the Golden Lions, throwing a total of 772 passing yards.
WR Josh Wilkes leads the Golden Lions in receiving yards with 281 yards and plans to gain more yards against Arkansas, making an even bigger name for himself.
RB Kierre Crossley leads in rushing yards for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, rushing for 217 yards this season.
On the defensive side of the ball, LB Monroe Beard III currently leads the Golden Lions with 38 tackles, followed by DB Jalon Thigpen with 31 tackles. Beard III and Thigpen sit in the top five in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) for tackles.
The Golden Lions special teams continue to come up big, ranking first in the FCS in blocked kicks.
After coming off a tough 34 – 7 loss against Southern last week, the Golden Lions are hunting for a win to end their losing streak.
Hard at practice this week, Arkansas-Pine Bluff has been experimenting with different ways to come out with a victorious upset against once nationally ranked Arkansas, leading with the UAPB quarterbacks focusing on improving their passing.
UAPB head coach Doc Gamble expects an improved Golden Lion team on the gridiron this week. "We just have to play improved football this week and take care of ourselves before we worry about the opponent," said Gamble about how success will look for the Golden Lions this weekend.
Arkansas is coming off a 38 – 23 loss against Auburn last weekend.
QB KJ Jefferson leads the Razorbacks with 1463 passing yards so far this season.
The contest will kick off at 11 a.m. and will be available for live streaming on SEC Network.
