UAPB Football Seeking to Bounce Back Against Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TX – Learning some significant attributions about themselves after facing the Arkansas Razorbacks in a historic match, the Golden Lions will switch gears back to SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) play as they prepare to take on the Texas Southern Tigers on the road, Saturday at 2 p.m. at BBVA Stadium.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff was scheduled to host the TSU Tigers for their spring season opener back in February, but the game was canceled due to extreme weather conditions that would affect the nation.

Months later, the Golden Lions will finally have their shot at the Tigers, looking to extend their two-game winning streak against Texas Southern.

UAPB is looking to bounce back after a 45 – 3 loss against Arkansas.

UAPB head coach Doc Gamble feels highly confident about the matchup against Texas Southern from takeaways from the Razorback matchup. "We know what our guys are capable of, and we just have to play with confidence and consistency," said Gamble about what it takes for the Golden Lions to be victorious against Texas Southern.

In the last matchup against TxSU, the Golden Lions would gain nearly over 200 rushing yards over the Tigers while gaining a total of 541 yards to Texas Southern's 287 yards.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

QB Skyler Perry is looking to have another field day against TxSU as he did in 2019 with 163 passing yards. Perry currently holds 934 passing yards thus far in the season.

RB Kierre Crossley leads the Golden Lions with a total of 291-yards on the season, followed by WR Josh Wilkes leading with 312 receiving yards.

On the defensive end, LB Kolby Watts will look forward to earning nearly as many stops as he did in 2019, with a game total of ten tackles against Texas Southern. Watts currently has 33 tackles in the season.

LB Monroe Beard III and DB Jalon Thigpen currently lead the Arkansas-Pine Bluff defense with 45 tackles apiece. Thigpen now ranks third in the SWAC in tackles.

Texas Southern is coming off a 44 – 27 loss against Alcorn State last weekend.

TxSU QB Andrew Body currently leads the Tigers with 1205 passing yards, throwing 63 percent.
