UAPB Football Set to Play Alcorn State on ESPNU

PINE BLUFF, AR – Being the first time the teams will share the gridiron since 2016, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team will give Alcorn State a long-overdue rematch Thursday at Simmons Bank Field.

In the last matchup between the Golden Lions and the Braves, UAPB went on to defeat Alcorn State in their backyard in a head-to-head duel, going into three overtimes before former Golden Lion star Willie Young would catch a 25-yard pass from Brandon Duncan to score a game-winning touchdown in the final minutes, leaving a bad taste in Alcorn State's mouth.

After taking a loss to Central Arkansas, with a final score of 45 – 23 over the weekend, the Golden Lions are looking to bounce back from their defeat against the visiting Braves.

Looking to do damage for the Golden Lions will be WR Dejuan Miller, who racked up 101 receiving yards in the past two contests.

RB Kierre Crossley will continue to add points to the scoreboard for UAPB after running in three touchdowns in the past couple of matchups with the Golden Lions, gaining 141 rushing yards under his belt thus far in regular-season play.

DB Preseason All-Conference Jalon Thigpen made his debut after finishing with a team-high 12 tackles last weekend against Central Arkansas. The Golden Lions secondary unit ranks second in the league with three interceptions in the last two games.

UAPB head coach Doc Gamble is looking forward to putting on a show against the Braves. "It's going to be a pretty physical and talent-loaded game," said Gamble. "We're looking forward to playing them."

The Alcorn State Braves will also be looking to bounce back from a tough South Alabama loss, with a final score of 28-21 the past weekend with QB Felix Harper threw 265 passing yards.

The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. The game's theme will be "Blackout" and Community and Greek & Legendary night at Simmons Bank Field. CDC guidelines and a clear bag policy will be in effect at the game. You can stream the game live on ESPNU and UAPB Sports Network, or listen live on UAPB Sports Network or 99.3 FM The Beat.
