UAPB Football Set to Square-off Against Southern University for 2021 Homecoming

PINE BLUFF, AR - The homecoming season is activated at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, bringing fans and alumni from across the nation to UAPB. After canceling the 2020 homecoming due to health and safety precautions from COVID-19, Arkansas-Pine Bluff football is ready to give fans what they've been missing.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team will take on the visiting Jaguars of Southern University on Saturday at 2 p.m. for their homecoming game at Simmons Bank Field.

QB Skyler Perry will continue to direct traffic for the Golden Lions, leading with 772 passing yards.

WR Josh Wilkes leads the Golden Lions in receiving yards with 281 yards and plans to increase his numbers against Southern University.

RB Kierre Crossley leads in rushing yards for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, rushing for 217 yards this season.

DB Jalon Thigpen ranks second in the SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) in tackles on the defensive side for the Golden Lions, with 24 defensive stops of his own through four games.

In last season's spring opener, the Golden Lions traveled to Baton Rouge, LA, to take on Southern University in the hostile environment of AW Mumford Stadium. Louisiana native Skyler Perry made his prerogative to make a statement in his home state and would by scoring two touchdowns and coming out with a victory over Southern with a final score of 33 – 30.

The Southern Jaguars didn't swallow the pill too well of losing to the Golden Lions during the spring season and are looking to get redemption against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but UAPB head coach Doc Gamble has a gameplan set to have another victorious outcome over Southern again.

"We're looking forward to getting back on the right track tomorrow and making lots of great plays in the endzone," said Gamble about the team's execution against Southern. "We have to play good football and do what we do best."

The Southern Jaguars are coming off a 35 – 31 loss to Texas Southern and are led by QB Glendon McDaniel, throwing a total of 586 passing yards.
