UAPB Football to Matchup in Arkansas Rival Rebirth Against Central Arkansas

CONWAY, AR -- After a great season opener against Lane College, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football is looking to advance their record to 2-0 against the 0-2 Central Arkansas Bears on Saturday.

Following the week after their season opener, the Golden Lions had a bye week, and their focus was to get back healthy and prepare to take on an old friend up the road.

Meeting for the first time since 2008, the 13-year wait of the UAPB vs. UCA rival has been reborn. In their last matchup, Central Arkansas defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock with a final score of 41-17 after returning from a deficit.

The UCA Bears are currently 0-2 after losing two matchups against Arkansas State with a final score of 21-40 and Missouri State, 34-43.

QB Skyler Perry has been locked in on the team's matchup with the Bears all week, studying film and ready to add to his 189 passing yards, looking to continue to be the offensive threat he is on the gridiron for the Golden Lions.

LB's Monroe Beard III and Kolby Watts are looking to bring the heat for the Golden Lions defense on Saturday, and DB Paul Reeves, who is expected to be barbaric, holding it down for the UAPB defense, all looking to add on to their combined 18 tackles.

UAPB second-year head coach Doc Gamble and his team are focused on one goal for tomorrow, and that is getting a victory over the FCS No. 25 ranked team.

"We're prepared and ready to hit the field to give it our all on Saturday," said Gamble about his team's focus for Saturday's matchup.

The Golden Lions rested WR's Josh Wilkes and Tyrin Ralph in their season opener against Lane but will return to the gridiron on Saturday to bring lighting speed for UAPB.

Also returning to the field for the Golden Lions will be DB Solomon Brooks and First Team Preseason All-SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) DB Jalon Thigpen, bringing lots of energy and punishment on the defensive end for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

"Those guys make things easier on the field on our end because of their high level of play," said Gamble.

The contest will kick off at 6 p.m. on ESPN 3.
